💰 For Buyers
✓Inspect before you pay. See the vehicle in person, or arrange an independent inspection, before handing over any money.
✓Verify the vehicle. Check the rego, WOF and ownership on the NZTA website, and confirm the plate and VIN match the car.
✓Meet in a safe, public place. Daytime, with someone you trust, is best — especially for cash deals.
✓Never pay a deposit to “hold” a car. Be wary of anyone who refuses to meet or pushes for upfront payment.
🚗 For Sellers
✓Confirm payment first. Count cash, or wait until a transfer actually lands in your account, before releasing the vehicle.
✓Notify the change of ownership. Tell NZTA you’ve sold or disposed of the vehicle so you’re no longer liable for it.
✓Remove your belongings & data. Clear the glovebox and boot, and unpair your phone from the car’s system.
✓Keep a record. Note the buyer’s name and the date, and keep a copy of your listing for your records.

Is it free to list my car?+
Yes — listing a vehicle on CarGone NZ is completely free, whether you want to sell it, part it out, or get rid of it as scrap. There are no fees to post a listing.
Do you take cars that don’t run, or have no WOF or rego?+
Absolutely. Damaged, non-running, written-off and deregistered vehicles are all welcome. List it as “Get rid of it (free/scrap)” or “Sell the parts” and you’ll still connect with people who want it.
How does removal work?+
Once you and a buyer agree, removal is arranged at a time that suits you — often same day. Many scrap and parts buyers will collect the vehicle directly from your driveway, garage or the roadside, anywhere in New Zealand.
When and how do I get paid?+
Payment is arranged directly between you and the buyer, and for scrap and cash sales is usually paid in person when the vehicle is collected. Always confirm the money has cleared before releasing the car.
What areas do you cover?+
CarGone NZ is nationwide. You’ll find buyers and sellers across Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Hamilton, Tauranga, Dunedin, Palmerston North and everywhere in between.
Do I need to tell NZTA when I sell or scrap my car?+
Yes. To make sure you’re no longer responsible for the vehicle, notify NZTA that you’ve sold or disposed of it (a change of ownership, or a notice of disposal). You can do this online on the NZTA website.
Is my contact information safe?+
Enquiries reach you through the form on this site, and we only share what’s needed to connect a genuine buyer with a seller. See our Privacy Policy for the full detail on what we collect and why.
Can I sell individual parts instead of the whole car?+
Yes. Choose “Sell the parts” when you list, then add each part with its own price. It’s a great way to recover real value from an end-of-life vehicle.

This policy explains what personal information CarGone NZ (“we”, “us”) collects, why we collect it, and how we look after it — in line with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
What we collect
We only collect information you choose to give us, plus a little your browser sends automatically:
When you list a vehicle: your name, phone number, email address, region, and the details and photos of your vehicle.
When you enquire about a listing: your name, email address, an optional phone number, and your message.
When you leave a review: your name, an optional email address, your rating and your review.
Automatically: basic technical information such as your browser and device type, used to keep the site working.
Why we collect it
To publish your listing and connect you with buyers or sellers.
To pass your enquiry to the relevant seller so they can respond.
To display approved reviews and reply to them.
To operate, maintain and improve the website.
How we share it
When you make an enquiry, the contact details and message you provide are shared with the relevant seller so they can get back to you. We do not sell your personal information. We may disclose information where the law requires us to.
How we store and protect it
Your information is held securely with our backend service provider. We take reasonable steps to protect it from loss, misuse and unauthorised access, and we keep it only for as long as we need it for the purposes above, or as the law requires.

The site uses a small amount of local storage in your browser to function. If website analytics are switched on in future, we will update this policy to explain what is collected and why.

1. About CarGone NZ
CarGone NZ is an online marketplace that connects people who want to sell, scrap or part out a vehicle with potential buyers across New Zealand. We provide the platform — we are not a party to any sale, purchase or removal arranged between users.
2. Listing a vehicle
You may only list a vehicle you own or are authorised to sell. The information and photos you provide must be accurate and not misleading. You are responsible for the content of your listing.
3. Enquiries and buying
Enquiries are passed to the relevant seller. Before buying, do your own due diligence: inspect the vehicle, and verify its ownership, registration and WOF status. See the safety guidance on our home page.
4. Acceptable use
You must not use CarGone NZ to post unlawful, fraudulent, offensive or infringing content, to list stolen vehicles, to misuse other people’s contact details, or to send spam.
5. Reviews
Reviews must be genuine and based on a real experience. We may decline, edit or remove reviews, and reviews are published only once approved.
6. Our role and liability
Listings and reviews are created by users. We do not guarantee the accuracy of any listing, the condition of any vehicle, or that any sale or removal will take place. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss arising from dealings between users or reliance on listings. Nothing in these terms limits rights you may have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986 where they apply.
7. Removing content
We may edit or remove any listing or review, or restrict access to the site, at our discretion — for example, where content breaches these terms.
8. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Continuing to use the site means you accept the current version.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand.
